Gen-Z and their TikTok Usage
This demographic has played an huge role in the success of the app. They are often referred to as ‘online natives’ as they have grown up with social platforms their whole lives. They able to naturally navigate TikTok’s features, and use them in innovative ways.
Although TikTok is mostly used for entertainment purposes, this platform is also quickly becoming Gen-Z’s new Google. The app offers a user-friendly search bar that produces very relevant results. This has led to more and more users literally using it as a search engine. Gen-Z especially. They use TikTok to find new hot spots, new restaurants, food recipes, and step-by-step instructions for just about anything.
TikTok has also provided a platform for people to access credible information from academics and professionals. In instances such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, many users turned to TikTok to learn the facts of the circumstances. This has allowed the general public to easily obtain information that gatekeepers of the past would restrict.
Today, the #tiktoktaughtme hashtag is one of the most highly used hashtags on the app. it focuses on the new “life hacks” people have learned by watching TikToks and using the search tool. As a Gen-Z TikTok user myself, I can confidently say TikTok is my new Google, and I am constantly learning more from this platform every day.
